Military Dismisses Viral Video Alleging Poor Welfare for Wounded Troops
The Nigerian military has dismissed a viral social media video alleging poor welfare and neglect of wounded troops, describing the claims as false, misleading, and deliberately aimed at undermining morale within the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said the video does not reflect the reality of the military’s welfare system for injured personnel, stressing that the care of wounded soldiers remains a top priority.
According to the DHQ, personnel injured during operations receive comprehensive medical treatment at military hospitals across Nigeria and, where required, are referred to specialised medical facilities abroad. The military added that wounded troops are also enrolled in rehabilitation programmes, psychological support services, and long-term welfare plans.

The military leadership explained that some of the individuals featured in the viral footage are currently undergoing structured rehabilitation, countering claims of abandonment. It further highlighted Nigeria’s participation in international initiatives such as the Invictus Games, which showcase continued support for wounded service members.
Describing the video as misinformation, the DHQ cautioned members of the public against sharing unverified content that could damage public trust and negatively affect troop morale. It reaffirmed the military’s commitment to the dignity, wellbeing, and welfare of Nigerian troops, especially those injured in the line of duty.
