Nigerian soldier accused of sleeping with colleague’s wife dismissed

The Nigerian Army has dismissed a soldier after he was found guilty of having s3x with his colleague’s wife, SaharaReporters has reported.

According to multiple sources, the Lance Corporal was dismissed during the week at 231 Battalion in Biu, Borno State.

“The soldier was fired from the Nigerian Army for sleeping with his colleague’s housewife. We’re happy as this will serve as an example to others involved in this act now common in our barracks,” one of the sources said.

Another source added, “Our colleague, Abdullahi has been dismissed at 231 BN Biu. He slept with his regular’s wife. So sad.”

The source added that the dismissed soldier had a notorious history of s3xual indiscipline before he was reported to the army authorities.

His offence – indecent professional misconduct and having s3x with a fellow soldier’s wife – contravenes Sections 79 and 93 of the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The law prescribes jail term and dismissal from service with dishonour.

This comes a few days after the Nigerian Army authorities dismissed two soldiers for stealing armoured cables from the Dangote Refinery, Lagos.

Tension as policeman guns down colleague at popular Jos market

A tragic incident unfolded at Terminus Market in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, as a police officer attached to the enforcement team of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) was reportedly shot dead.

Recent mobilization efforts by the state government to crack down on street trading in the area led to increased presence of security operatives, comprising policemen and soldiers, stationed around Terminus Market to ensure strict enforcement of the law.

Ibrahim Musa recounted to our correspondent that the unfortunate event occurred when security personnel were in pursuit of traders. In an unintended mishap, a police officer was struck by a stray bullet fired by a fellow security officer, resulting in his immediate demise. The Road Safety Corps subsequently evacuated the deceased officer’s body to a nearby hospital.

Confirming the incident, an anonymous market official attributed the officer’s death to a tragic mistake by his colleague. The tense atmosphere that ensued prompted the deployment of teargas cannisters to disperse the gathered crowd.

In response to inquiries, DSP Alabo Alfred, the spokesperson for the state police command, assured that investigations into the matter were ongoing.

Police arrest masquerader suspected of flogging female nurse in Enugu

Police Operatives serving in the Nsukka Sector of the Enugu State Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, have arrested a ‘’masquerade” popularly called Oriokpa, caught on tape physically assaulting a female victim at Ugwuoye Junction, Nsukka.

The man behind the masquerade costume was later identified as Ugwuoke Ebube “m”, aged 22, of Enugu Road, Nsukka.

A statement released by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, says an investigation into the case suggests that the suspect was part of a group of masqueraders that similarly assaulted a female nurse riding a motorcycle, as captured in a viral video in April 2024. He was arraigned in the Nsukka Magistrate Court of Enugu State, Nigeria on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, but was granted bail by the court.

Ndukwe mentioned that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu while condemning the act, has warned those intending to hide under the guise of culturally celebrating masquerades to commit such criminal acts of assault against fellow citizens to desist forthwith. He stressed that the Command will henceforth not hesitate to bring anyone found wanting to book, just as in the case at hand.
