Singer Habeeb Okikiola, professionally known as Portable, has disclosed that Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state paid him N2 million after complaining about the bad road networks across the state.

In a viral video on social media, the 30-year-old musician said, “Oga (Dapo Abiodun) ti te two million naira, won ni Dapo ni gbogbo ona ni oun ma se,” which translates to “the boss has sent two million naira and has promised to repair every road.”

Mr Abiodun has faced heavy criticism on social media over the bad state of several major roads across the state, with many netizens calling them “death traps”.

Peoples Gazette reached out to Mr Abiodun and the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, for comments on Portable’s statement via WhatsApp. While the messages have been successfully delivered, neither has responded to the request as of the time of filing this report.

As 90th birthday gift, Tinubu renames National Theatre after Wole Soyinka

President Bola Tinubu on Friday renamed the National Theatre in Lagos after Professor Wole Soyinka.

The announcement was contained in a birthday message to the Nobel laureate who turned 90 on July 13.

“It is also fitting we celebrate this national treasure while he is still with us,” Tinubu said.

“I am, accordingly, delighted to announce the decision of the Federal Government to rename the National Theatre in Iganmu, Surulere, as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts.

“We do not only celebrate Soyinka’s remarkable literary achievements but also his unwavering dedication to the values of human dignity and justice.”

The President added that “Professor Soyinka, the first African to win the Nobel Literature Prize in 1986, deserves all the accolades as he marks the milestone of 90 years on earth”.

“Having beaten prostate cancer, this milestone is a fitting testament to his ruggedness as a person and the significance of his work,” he said.

In 2005, the professor served on the Encyclopædia Britannica editorial board of advisors.

Soyinka was also in the trenches when activists battled the military to enthrone democracy.

“Beginning from his 20s, he took personal risks for the sake of our nation,” the President said.

“His courage was evident when he attempted to broker peace at the start of the civil war in 1967.

“Despite deprivation and solitary confinement, his resolve to speak truth to power and fight for the marginalized was further strengthened.

“His early writing, such as ‘The Lion and the Jewel,’ ’Death and the King’s Horseman’, not only testified to his mastery of language, his innovative storytelling, but also his unflinching commitment to enthroning a fair and just society.

“Our paths crossed during our just struggle for the enthronement of democracy in Nigeria following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

“When faced with a trial in absentia and death sentence by the military regime at home, he galvanized opposition in exile through NALICON and NADECO.

“His global stature made him the face of our struggle to validate June 12 and restore democracy in Nigeria.”

Tinubu described Soyinka as a Nigerian whose influence transcends the country, noting his criticisms of the then-apartheid era in South Africa and racism in the US.

[Video] Toyin Abraham denies arresting X user’s mother

Actress Toyin Abraham has denied she arrested a Twitter user’s mother.

The user had taken to the social media platform to claim the filmmaker arrested his mother illegally.

However, Abraham set the record straight, stating that she only made a report at the cybercrime unit due to threats to her life and family.

According to her, the user’s friend, Ayo was arrested for alleged bullying and defamation.

Abraham emphasised that she did not arrest the user’s mother, contrary to the claims made.

She also clarified that she deleted related tweets after the issue was resolved.

The Twitter user had claimed that his mother was picked up from her shop to Panti police station but Abraham maintained that she did not initiate any arrests.

This development comes amid growing concerns about online bullying and harassment.

The incident has sparked a wider conversation about the boundaries of free speech and the need for responsible social media usage.

An X user Danny wrote: “Hello @toyin_abraham1, you will have to send the police to pick all of us. You are very shameless”.

Replying to him, Toyin stated that he can abuse all and call her names, and it would be okay but where she draws the line is when people curse her kids and lie.

“You can abuse and call me names; it’s fine, and as I said, I will accept and take it cos I’m in the public eyes, but cursing kids and lying is what I won’t accept, and lastly, I never and will never arrest anyone’s mother. I made a report on cybercrime as a citizen. I made my report at cybercrime cos the threat to life and curse and threat on my family were beyond what I can take, as for me, abuse me, insult me please, say anything to me please,” she responded.

The X user, Jeffery further alleged the movie star picked up her mom from her shop.

“It’s one thing to make a tweet, and you arrest me. It’s another thing to arrest me for not even making a single comment, @toyin_abraham1. You picked my mom up from her shop to Panti police station for something I didn’t even do. God will judge you,” he tweeted.

Toyin replied, : “Lying on my head comfortably now, the world won’t see this if I react how, they will say something else. I never arrested your mum. Your friend Ayo was arrested for bullying and cursing and defaming my family, and mum went there saying she won’t leave without him”.

Another tweep, Uchenna, questioned why the movie star deleted some of her tweets to which she replied was no need to beat around the bush.
