Oshiomhole Demands Death Penalty for Former NMDPRA Boss Farouk Ahmed
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has demanded the death penalty for Farouk Ahmed, former CEO and Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), citing alleged failures during his tenure.
Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, made the remarks on Thursday during Senate plenary, while Saidu Aliyu Mohammed was being screened as the new NMDPRA chief executive.
“Your predecessor, Mr Ahmed Farouk, who was removed, and I celebrated it last night. He needed to be hanged,” Oshiomhole said. “If we don’t hang him, he will hang Nigeria.” He added that anyone opposed to job creation in Nigeria and who favours excessive importation over local production does not deserve to live.

The senator also warned Mr Mohammed against repeating the mistakes of his predecessor, criticizing Ahmed’s “very shameful performance policy choices.” He urged the nominee to protect local industries and create employment opportunities.
Oshiomhole’s comments followed Ahmed’s resignation, which came after Aliko Dangote, president and CEO of Dangote Industries, accused the former regulator of living beyond his earnings. Dangote submitted a petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), calling for Ahmed’s arrest, investigation, and prosecution for alleged corruption and financial impropriety.
Ahmed, however, has denied the allegations, describing them as baseless in a statement on NMDPRA’s X page. “I have opted not to engage in public brickbat. The person behind the allegations has taken it to a formal investigative institution,” he said, expressing confidence that the process will clear his name.
The ICPC confirmed on Tuesday that it had received Dangote’s petition and would investigate the claims of misconduct against Ahmed.
