Osun: Police Warn Politicians Against Disrupting Local Govt Workers’ Resumption

The Osun State Police Command has issued a stern warning to politicians and non-council personnel against disrupting the scheduled resumption of local government workers on Monday, January 5, 2026.

The warning was conveyed on Friday by ASP Giwa-Alade Emmanuel, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), who said the command had received credible intelligence of plans by some individuals to interfere with the workers’ return to local government secretariats.

“The command has received intelligence indicating that certain unscrupulous politicians are planning to disrupt the peaceful resumption of duties by local government employees at various council secretariats,” he said.

Police Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan reinforced the message, cautioning non-personnel to stay away from council offices, while directing officers to act firmly and professionally against anyone attempting to incite unrest.

“Such malicious plans will not be tolerated and will be met with resolute and decisive action by the command to maintain law and order,” Gotan said, assuring law-abiding residents of the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities to the nearest station, and use dedicated contact numbers and social media handles for timely communication with law enforcement.

The resumption follows a long-standing boycott by local government workers in Osun, which began on February 17, 2025, under directives from the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun chapter. The strike was linked to the February 10, 2025, Court of Appeal, Akure ruling, which generated political controversy over the reinstatement of sacked APC chairmen and councillors elected in 2022.

While the PDP argued that the court ruling did not reinstate the APC officials, the APC maintained their return to office. The strike was further supported by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), citing security concerns for council employees.

Authorities have now signalled a push to restore normalcy in local governance, emphasizing peace, lawfulness, and cooperation with security agencies as the workers return to duty.

EFCC Arraigns Mompha’s Associate Over Alleged ₦206m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Sarumi Samusudeen Babafemi, an associate of social media personality Ismaila Mustapha (Mompha), alongside three corporate entities, over an alleged ₦206 million fraud before the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja.

Babafemi — Managing Director and CEO of 606 Autos Limited, 606 Music Limited, and Splash Off Entertainment Limited — faces five counts of conspiracy, concealment, and transfer of proceeds of crime, allegedly committed between 2013 and 2018. The EFCC claims the offences involved large sums, including ₦37.6 million and ₦93 million transferred to third parties, with knowledge that the funds were proceeds of unlawful acts.

When the charges were read, Babafemi pleaded not guilty. His defence lawyer, SAN Kunle Adegoke, filed a bail application, which the court granted, ordering that Babafemi be released to his counsel upon signing an affidavit of undertaking to appear in court. The trial is now scheduled to commence on March 24, 2026.

The EFCC said Babafemi acted in concert with Mompha and other co-accused — Ridwan Momodu Allison (Osama) and Richard Ugbah, who are currently at large — to facilitate the alleged money laundering scheme. This latest prosecution comes as part of broader EFCC efforts to tackle financial crimes and fraud networks linked to high-profile figures in Nigeria.
