Operatives of the Jigawa State Police Command have arrested 31 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers and drug dealers in various in the state.
Spokesperson of the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, January 20, 2024, said that illicit drugs, five motorcycles, and a dane gun were recovered from the suspects.

The PPRO said that in its bid to sustain the relative peace being enjoyed in the state and to deal with some pockets of kidnappings and armed robbery cases, particularly in the command border with Bauchi State, the Command has partnered with its Bauchi counterpart and organized an Intelligence-led-raid, combing of bush and show of force at Zamdama Hills, Balmo, Baranda and Bagadaza Forests.
“The operation was carried out and jointly led by the Commissioner of Police Jigawa State Command, CP AT ABDULLAHI, psc and his counterpart, the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command, CP AM MUHAMMAD with a view to taking the war to the bandit’s Camps. Members of the hunters, forestry guards, vigilantes and yal bulala complemented the efforts of the police during the two-day operation,” the statement read.

During the operations, twelve suspected kidnappers were arrested and four motorcycles were recovered. Also, six bandit camps were dislodged.
“In another development, on 13/01/2024 at about 2000hrs, a team of policemen attached to Babura Divisional Headquarters, while on routine patrol intercepted one Abdulkarim Mamman ‘m’ age 27yrs of Kafi village, Baure LGA Katsina State in possession of one unregistered Motorcycle strongly suspected to be stolen
“When questioned, the suspect could not give a satisfactory account of the motorcycle, hence he was arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to have stolen the said motorcycle at Caki village, Baure LGA of Katsina State. Meanwhile, effort is on to locate the owner, through the police from Katsina Command.
“Furthermore, on 14th January 2024 at about 0400hrs, based on credible information and intelligence gathered, four suspects namely; Garba Adamu ‘m’ age 40yrs (aka Haro), Haruna Abubakar ‘m’ age 32yrs, Gidanne Abubakar ‘m’ age 25yrs, all of Gorar Arewa village Ringim LGA and Ruwaji Adamu ‘m’ age 45yrs of Jauga village Ringim LGA were arrested by a aeam of Policemen attached to Ringim Police Station for trespassing into the residence of one Alhaji Tijjani Yakubu ‘m’ of Sabon Kafi village with the intent to commit robbery. Hence the suspects were taken to the Divisional headquarters for interrogation.

“On interrogation, the suspects confessed to have criminally conspired and invaded the house of the victim in the middle of the night and armed with dangerous weapons with intent to steal his cows. However, while executing their mission, the neighbourhood raised alarm, following which the suspects attempted to escape. But were all arrested by the Police.
“When search was conducted at their houses, a Dane Gun was recovered. Suspects have been transferred to SCID, Dutse for discreet investigation.
“Between 9th and 15th of January, 2024 Gallant Policemen attached to Dutse, Taura and Bamaina Divisional Headquarters, acting on credible intelligence, raided criminal hideouts and Black spots at Zai Hills and Yalawa Mainoni, Gilima market and Masiya village in Dutse, Taura and B/kudu LGAs respectively.”
During the raid, fourteen suspects were arrested including two drug dealers namely; Nasiru Adamu ‘m’ age 21yrs of Sabuwar Maranjuwa and Mohammed Adamu ‘m’ age 20yrs of Limawa village.
The exhibits include; four blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, one hundred and seventy-three (173) wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, four 4 packets and twenty-five (25) pieces of rubber solutions, one 50cl bottle of raw suck and die substance, ninety-three (93) tablets of diazepam, seven pieces of tramadol tablets, 29 pieces of Exxol tablets and 50 pieces of d5 tablets.
On interrogation, all the suspects confessed to the crimes and will be transferred to NDLEA after preliminary investigation is conducted by the SCID, Dutse.
“Finally, Jigawa Command under the able leadership of CP AT ABDULLAHI psc is appreciative of the members of the general public commitment to volunteering information to the police and as well unequivocally telling the criminally minded individuals to put a thinking cap and either leave the state or face the consequences,” the PPRO added.

Rampaging cultists gun down SUG official, one other in Edo

Fear gripped residents as two students from Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in Ekpoma, a government-owned institution in Edo state, fell victim to a tragic incident of cult violence.

Among them was a member of the university’s Students’ Union Government (SUG). The SUG official, a 400-level student in the Faculty of Agriculture, met his demise on Poultry Road Extension in Ekpoma.

This unfortunate event came shortly after another incident where an individual named Eddy was fatally assaulted for allegedly using fake bank alerts during a transaction. Regrettably, this incident was mistakenly interpreted as an attack by rival cult factions. Consequently, a cycle of violence ensued, resulting in the deaths of the two undergraduates.

Confirming the grim reality of the cult-related killings, Edo’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police Chidi Nwabuzor, disclosed that arrests have been made in connection to the incident, with investigations underway.

Lagos cleric, 45, docked for raping 22-year-old lady

A 45-year-old cleric, Mr Sunday Adewoye, was docked for allegedly raping a 22-year-old lady before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State on Tuesday.

Adewoye, whose address was not provided, is charged with unlawful sexual penetration and rape.

The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that Adewoye committed the offenses on April 17 at 5.00 p.m. on Joseph Dosu Way, Badagry.

Adeosun said that Adewoye had sexual intercourse with the 22-year-old lady without her consent, in contravention of Sections 260 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, did not take the plea of Adewoye.

He said that he needed advice from the state director of public prosecutions.

The chief magistrate ordered that the defendant should be kept in a custodial facility pending the advice.

He adjourned the case until June 3 for mention.

Pregnant woman among nine people injured in Lagos gas explosion

A pregnant woman and eight other people sustained varying degrees of injuries after a gas explosion rocked the Alaba Lane area of Alayabiagba Community in Lagos, Nigeria.

New Telegraph reports that the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 12:39 pm.

According to Amodu Shakiru, the Head of Public Education at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, preliminary investigations suggest that a leaking gas cylinder among several being traded in the neighborhood triggered the explosion.

The leak caused a high-tension cable to snap, starting a fire that destroyed four commercial tricycles, six lock-up shops, and a portion of a bungalow building.

“The Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and fire stations in Ajegunle and Sari-Iganmu quickly responded to the incident and were able to contain the fire.

“The Lagos State Ambulance Service also provided initial care to the injured, including the pregnant woman and children.”

“The pregnant woman and eight other victims, both male and female, are currently receiving treatment at the Gbagada Burn & Trauma Center and Ajeromi General Hospital for their burn injuries.”

In a separate incident, reports indicate that no fewer than 14 buildings were gutted by fire in Dosumu Market, located in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
