Suspected Hoodlums Kill Former Osun NURTW Boss as Police Launch Investigation
The Osun State Police Command has begun an investigation into the killing of a former National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) boss in Osogbo, the state capital, after he was attacked by suspected hoodlums.
The victim, identified as Kazeem Oyewole, a former unit chairman of the NURTW in Osun State, was reportedly assaulted on Sunday in the Orita Elelede area of Osogbo. Eyewitness accounts said the attackers chased and struck while he was on a motorcycle, leaving him dead at the scene, while another person sustained serious injuries.

Following the incident, tension reportedly rose in parts of the city, especially around motor parks, as associates of the deceased expressed anger over the killing. Police operatives were swiftly deployed to strategic locations to prevent reprisal attacks and maintain law and order.
Confirming the incident, the police said detectives have commenced intelligence gathering, including the identification and tracking of the suspects involved. The command assured residents that those responsible would be arrested and prosecuted.
The killing has once again drawn attention to security concerns around motor parks and transport unions, which have in the past been linked to violent clashes and criminal activities. In recent months, police across the South-West have intensified efforts to clamp down on hoodlum activities and union-related violence, with several arrests recorded in similar cases.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
