Toyin Abraham takes action against movie leaks
Toyin Abraham takes action against movie leaks
Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham recently revealed that her latest movie, ‘Malaika,’ faced an unfortunate leak just three days into the new year.
The actress swiftly took action against the perpetrators to curb the unauthorised distribution and piracy of the film with the help of her team and the Nigerian police force to arrest culprits.
Toyin disclosed that the culprits behind the leak were also involved in pirating numerous cinema movies, streaming content, and even YouTube videos.
She urged individuals involved in uploading or aiding and abetting the piracy of movies on social media platforms like Telegram to cease their activities, emphasising the adverse effects on investments and the growth of the creative sector.
“Three (3) days into the new year, my movie, ‘Malaika’ was leaked online. My team quickly moved into action and ensured it was curbed but even at that, I was afraid and worried that another source may drop the movie,” she revealed.
“Upon fishing further, I noticed these guys also pirate many other cinema movies, streaming, and even YouTube content. How can the creative industry grow when some elements stay in one corner to cause us pain and destroy our investment? Streaming is cutting down on spending because they can’t trust that they will make the numbers and get the required subscription because of piracy.
For anyone uploading unlicensed content or even aiding and abetting by downloading illegally this is a call for you to stop.”
Toyin, however, acknowledged the efforts of her team and collaborators, including the distributor Film One, AIG Idowu Owohunwa, CP Atayero, CSP Kayode Emmanuel, SP Idris Sarumi, and their team members.
