We didn’t meet suspect accused of raping 14-year-old at home — Police
The Lagos police command has reacted to a viral video wherein a 14-year-old girl was said to have been raped by their landlord’s son.
On Tuesday, a video of the alleged rape case went viral on X. The case involved a 14-year-old girl who was reportedly raped by her landlord’s son in the Alakuko area of the state.
The video has triggered considerable public concern, with many citizens demanding that the police increase their efforts to bring the suspect to account.
Speaking on the public outry, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesperson, said he had been tagged in the post numerous times and had “repeatedly called” the divisional police officer (DPO) in Alakuko for updates, but was only told that “no report had been made.”

He asked the public to report the incident at the nearest police station or provide the address for verification and necessary action.
Shortly afterwards, the police spokesperson said operatives of the comand could not arrest the suspect accused of rape at his Lagos residence during their visit.
Hundeyin said the survivor’s mum was not cooperating with the command and expressed frustration with the community’s response.
“The house has been located in conjunction with @Lagosdsva,”Hundeyin wrote on X.
“The landlord is not home. The suspect is not home, neither is the survivor nor her family home.
“The survivor’s mum has been contacted on phone but she is not willing to cooperate with the police.
“Also, everyone on the street has declined assisting the police in any form. Radio silence!.”
The police spokesperson added that investigation is ongoing into the case.

The Lagos State Police Command has swiftly condemned the actions of Police Inspector Ayinde M.O, who was caught on video in an altercation with an elderly woman in Alagbado, Lagos.
The video, which went viral on social media, shows the inspector trying to forcefully take the keys from the woman’s Sienna vehicle, with some voices in the background alleging that the scuffle was over a N70,000 request.
According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, the incident occurred in the first week of September 2024, and a preliminary investigation has already begun.

The Police Inspector and his supervising DSP have been brought in for questioning, and the Complaint Response Unit has established contact with the woman in the video.
The Lagos State Police Command has made it clear that they do not tolerate unprofessional conduct, and this incident does not represent the ethics and operational standards of the Nigeria Police Force. The Command promises a swift, thorough, and conclusive investigation, ensuring that the officers are disciplined accordingly and the public is kept updated.
This isn’t the first time the Lagos State Police Command has taken action against misconduct. Previously, an Inspector was demoted to Sergeant for attempting to extort money from a drone operator.
The Command’s commitment to accountability and professionalism is reassuring, especially considering the critical role they play in maintaining law and order in Lagos State.

Man remanded for allegedly defiling stepdaughter in Benue
A Makurdi Magistrates Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of one Adera Sunday, 40, accused of defiling of his 16-year-old stepdaughter.
The Magistrate, Mrs Sonia Ayange, did not take the plea of the defendant, a resident of Welfare Quarters, Makurdi, for want of jurisdiction.
Ayange thereafter ordered that the defendant should be remanded at the Makurdi Correctional Centre pending further investigation.
She adjourned the case to Oct. 11 for further mention.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp James Ewache told the court that the teenager reported the case at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi on Aug. 30.
The prosecutor said that the complainant informed the police that her stepfather had been taking sexual advantage of her since she was 13 years of age without her consent.
“He lures her into taking noxious drugs and while under the influence, forcefully takes advantage of her,” the prosecutor said.
Ewache said that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and prayed the court for another date for mention.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 284 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue State, 2004.
