11 Killed in Katsina as Police Intensify Search for Bandit Killers
11 Killed in Katsina as Police Intensify Search for Bandit Killers
The Nigeria Police Force in Katsina State has launched an intensive manhunt for armed bandits responsible for the killing of 11 residents in coordinated attacks on communities in the Kankia area, vowing that the perpetrators will be tracked down and prosecuted.
The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar-Fage, gave the assurance while directing heightened tactical operations following the deadly reprisal attacks, which have left communities in shock and mourning.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the Commissioner said security operatives had already intensified operations across affected areas, combining bush-combing missions, surveillance, and coordinated patrols to locate fleeing suspects.
Umar-Fage noted that prior to the deadly incident, police operatives had recorded significant operational successes against armed groups operating in the area.
He disclosed that on April 29, security forces foiled a cattle rustling attempt in Gadar Yan Tulu and Kartaka villages, recovering 205 stolen animals, including 91 cows and 114 sheep.
According to him, another attack was repelled on Saturday in Matinjin village, during which several bandits reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds, while eight motorcycles believed to be linked to their operations were recovered by security operatives.

However, the situation escalated on Sunday when the armed groups regrouped and launched fresh assaults on Jeka da Kolo and Kwalgoro villages around midday.
“The attack occurred around noon, killing 11 persons before tactical teams were mobilised to repel the assailants,” Umar-Fage said.
He described the assault as “cowardly and barbaric,” extending condolences to the families of those killed and assuring that justice would be served.
The police commissioner confirmed that additional tactical units had been deployed to reinforce security presence in the affected communities, as operations continue to prevent further attacks.
He stressed that ongoing bush-combing operations and coordinated patrols are aimed at tracking down the fleeing suspects and dismantling their networks.
“We will not relent until peace and normalcy are fully restored,” he said, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and provide credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
Security analysts say the repeated cycle of attacks and reprisals in parts of Katsina reflects the broader insecurity challenge in Nigeria’s North-West, where armed bandit groups continue to target rural communities despite sustained military and police operations.
Authorities say further updates will be communicated as investigations and field operations progress.

Lagos Resident Accuses Armed Policemen of Forcing ₦200,000 Transfer at Gunpoint
Lagos Resident Accuses Armed Policemen of Forcing ₦200,000 Transfer at Gunpoint
A Lagos resident, identified as Aare Feyisayo, has accused three armed officers of the Lagos State Police Command of hijacking his vehicle and forcing him to transfer ₦200,000 at gunpoint during an incident along the Cele Expressway in Lagos State.
The allegation, shared in a post on X by @treatpworld, claims the incident occurred on April 22, 2026, at about 5:55 a.m. while the victim was on his way to work. He said officers intercepted his vehicle at Ajao Junction using an unregistered commercial bus (popularly called “Korope”), blocked his car, and forcibly took control of the situation.
According to Feyisayo, the officers allegedly forced his colleague out of the vehicle, seized his car key, and pushed him into the back seat before three armed men—one reportedly masked—entered his car and drove off. He claimed the officers headed towards Mile 2 via NAHCO Bridge before stopping at Cele Expressway, where the alleged extortion took place.
The victim further alleged that the officers compelled him to transfer ₦200,000 into a First Bank account provided by them, insisting the transaction was done under gunpoint at about 6:29 a.m. He added that once the transfer was confirmed, the officers reportedly exited his vehicle and fled the scene in their unmarked bus.

Feyisayo said he later reported the incident at a police station and presented evidence, including the account details used for the transaction and a picture of the alleged team leader. However, he claimed that he had not received any feedback or update on the case since filing the complaint.
The allegations have since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for a transparent investigation and accountability if the claims are verified.
Reacting to the development, spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the matter would be investigated, noting that updates would be communicated after review.
In a related response online, the Nigeria Police Force New Media Officer, Aliyu Giwa, directed the Police Complaint Response Unit to look into the allegation, signalling that internal investigation processes had been activated.
The Nigeria Police Force has repeatedly stated that it does not tolerate extortion or abuse of power by officers and encourages victims of misconduct to report cases through official channels for disciplinary action.
Authorities say investigations into the latest allegation are ongoing, while public attention continues to grow around the incident.

Army Neutralises Terrorists, Foils Attacks in Nationwide Operations
Army Neutralises Terrorists, Foils Attacks in Nationwide Operations
The Nigerian Army says troops have recorded fresh operational successes across multiple theatres of operation in the last 24 hours, including the neutralisation of several terrorists, disruption of logistics networks, and arrests of suspects linked to criminal and insurgent activities. The update was contained in an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, detailing ongoing counter-terrorism and internal security operations nationwide.
In the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai recorded significant breakthroughs against insurgents in Borno State. Soldiers encountered terrorist logistics suppliers along the Agapalwa–Chinene axis in Gwoza Local Government Area, forcing them to flee and abandon items including a motorcycle and food supplies. Acting on intelligence in Gallari, Konduga LGA, troops also used aerial surveillance to discover two gun trucks concealed under trees, which were subsequently destroyed or rendered inoperative.
In further operations, troops destroyed suspected terrorist life-support structures at Gakara high ground and Ndova village, a move aimed at weakening insurgent operational capabilities. The report also confirmed that troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade neutralised one terrorist during an ambush operation in Dipchari, Bama LGA, with follow-up clearance operations still ongoing in surrounding areas.

In the North-West, troops under Operation Fansan Yamma successfully repelled a terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The attackers reportedly arrived with gun trucks, two of which were destroyed during the confrontation, although they managed to escape with an RPG tube. The assault also led to the burning and looting of parts of the military camp and some shops within the community before troops stabilised the situation.
Under Operation Mesa, troops intercepted 76 suspected individuals in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, who were allegedly linked to a questionable recruitment scheme connected to foreign business interests. Preliminary investigations suggest the operation may be fraudulent, and the suspects are currently in custody for further interrogation and profiling as authorities work to determine the full extent of the network.
In a separate operation, troops arrested a suspected terrorist along the Lokoja–Abuja highway following credible intelligence reports. Security sources said investigations are ongoing to establish his links and possible involvement in broader criminal activities along the corridor.
In Plateau State, troops recovered a locally fabricated rifle and ammunition during ongoing operations following an earlier attack in Mangu Local Government Area that claimed the life of a security personnel. Clearance and search operations are still ongoing in the area to prevent further attacks and track fleeing suspects.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to sustained nationwide operations aimed at degrading terrorist and criminal networks, restoring peace, and protecting civilians. Authorities also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing missions across the country.

Delta Shooting: Officers Dismissed as Police Expose Circumstances Behind Killing
Delta Shooting: Officers Dismissed as Police Expose Circumstances Behind Killing
The Nigeria Police Force has forwarded the case file on the killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Delta State to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation for prosecution, marking a significant step toward justice in the controversial case.
The development follows the dismissal of officers implicated in the incident by the Police Service Commission after an internal investigation found them culpable of misconduct, abuse of office, and actions likely to cause a breach of public peace.
Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, describing the move as a critical milestone in ensuring accountability.
“The case file has been formally forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for vetting and prosecution. The Force will cooperate fully with the AGF’s office to ensure that this matter is prosecuted to its logical conclusion before a court of competent jurisdiction,” he said.
Placid confirmed that the Police Service Commission had ratified the dismissal of ASP Nuhu and three other officers found culpable in the unlawful killing, stressing that their removal from service takes immediate effect. He added that the officers have been arrested and are currently in custody pending prosecution.
Providing further details, Placid explained that the incident occurred after the deceased received a parcel from Bayelsa State, which he attempted to waybill to Sapele. According to him, the parcel was later discovered to contain a fabricated Beretta pistol and four rounds of 9mm ammunition, prompting a citizen’s arrest before police intervention.

He noted, however, that upon arrival at the scene, ASP Nuhu—who led the responding team—shot the already apprehended and unarmed suspect, an action he said was in clear violation of established rules of engagement.
“The Force wishes to be unequivocal: no criminal suspicion, however grave, justifies extrajudicial action. Every suspect is entitled to due process under the law,” Placid stated.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals linked to the case, including the driver who delivered the parcel and two vigilante members connected to the incident.
He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to accountability and justice, assuring both the public and the victim’s family that the matter would be pursued to its logical conclusion.
“The Nigeria Police Force does not shield officers who violate the law. No rank or position will place any officer above accountability,” he said, while urging members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
Eyewitness accounts and local reports indicate that the April 26 incident in Effurun sparked outrage within the community, with residents describing the shooting as avoidable. The development triggered protests and renewed calls for police reform and accountability.
Civil society organisations and human rights advocates have since demanded swift prosecution, warning that justice must not only be done but seen to be done to rebuild public trust.
With the case file now before the Attorney-General of the Federation, the next stage will involve a detailed legal review of evidence, including witness testimonies, forensic reports, and operational records, to determine appropriate charges.
If charges are filed, the dismissed officers are expected to be arraigned before a competent court, where the prosecution will seek to establish criminal liability.
The case underscores ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen internal discipline and address misconduct, as public demand grows for transparency, accountability, and reform in law enforcement.
