Army Colonel Killed, Wife, Aides Injured as Gunmen Storm Home in Coordinated Attack

A serving Nigerian Army officer, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, has been killed by gunmen who attacked his residence in a brazen assault that also left his wife, driver, and security guard with gunshot wounds. The incident, which occurred on Monday evening shortly after the senior military officer returned from work, has sent shockwaves through military circles and raised fresh security concerns across the Federal Capital Territory and its environs. The assailants reportedly stormed the Army Post Service Housing Estate in the Kurudu area, attempting to abduct the officer, but Colonel Ude put up fierce resistance against the heavily armed attackers. “He resisted them. From what investigators have gathered, they wanted to take him away, but he fought back. Unfortunately, he paid the ultimate price,” a security source familiar with the preliminary investigation was quoted as saying. After failing to abduct the officer, the gunmen shot him multiple times at close range before fleeing the scene, leaving the colonel fatally wounded. The attack also caught members of his household in the crossfire, as his wife, driver, and security guard sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries and were rushed to a hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment for their wounds.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has issued a clarification regarding the location of the attack, stating that the incident did not occur within the FCT as widely reported in some media outlets. In a statement on Tuesday night, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, explained that investigations ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, established that the attack took place in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, contrary to reports that had linked it to the Federal Capital Territory. The Police Command expressed concern that some blogs and media outlets published the reports without verifying the facts, thereby creating unnecessary panic and misinforming residents of the nation’s capital about the security situation. As a proactive measure, the Commissioner ordered the immediate deployment of operational and intelligence assets to border communities adjoining the FCT with Nasarawa State to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating the capital and to reassure residents of the Command’s commitment to their safety and security.

Colonel Ude, an indigene of Nsukka, Enugu State, served in the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps and was widely regarded as one of the military’s finest intelligence officers. A member of the 50 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, he was a dedicated professional who served in various counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria’s North-East, where he played crucial roles in intelligence gathering and operational planning. He was also deployed on international assignments in the Republic of Chad and France, where he contributed to intelligence-sharing and security cooperation initiatives between Nigeria and its international partners. Colleagues described him as a courageous and highly respected intelligence officer who remained composed even in the face of imminent danger, earning him widespread admiration across the military establishment. Sources revealed that he spoke Arabic and other foreign languages fluently, skills that significantly enhanced his effectiveness in intelligence operations and made him a valuable asset to the Armed Forces. At the time of his death, he and his coursemates were reportedly due for promotion to the rank of Brigadier General later this year, making his untimely death a profound loss to the military community.

Security agencies and military authorities have launched investigations into the attack and commenced a manhunt for those responsible, though as of the time of reporting, no arrests have been announced. The Nigerian Army had not issued an official statement on the incident, leaving many questions unanswered about the circumstances surrounding the attack and the identity of the perpetrators. The killing has intensified concerns about the safety of serving and retired military officers in and around Abuja, especially those who have held sensitive intelligence and operational positions that may make them targets for criminal elements or insurgent groups. The incident draws troubling comparisons to the murder of retired Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere, who was killed approximately two years ago when armed men invaded his residence in the Lokogoma area of Abuja while he was defending his family, with the attackers reportedly escaping with his firearm and other valuables. These repeated attacks on military personnel have sparked renewed calls for enhanced security measures to protect officers and their families from such brazen assaults.

Colonel Abdussalam Ude was buried on Tuesday at the Mambilla Mosque in Abuja in accordance with Islamic rites, with military personnel and family members in attendance to pay their final respects. His untimely death has left a void in the military intelligence community, where he was widely admired for his professionalism, dedication to duty, and unwavering commitment to the security of his nation. As investigations continue and the manhunt for his killers intensifies, colleagues, friends, and family members are left to mourn a distinguished officer whose life was cut short in the service of his country, while security agencies work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.

Kano Task Force Arrests Suspected Gang Leader in Port Harcourt Over Deadly Clashes

The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has arrested a suspected gang leader in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, over allegations of sponsoring violent gang clashes that reportedly claimed several lives in Kano.

The suspect, identified as Ishaq Lawan Ibrahim, popularly known as Malam Keya, is 27 years old and hails from Yelwa in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.

The task force said Ibrahim was arrested on Thursday, October 29, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation in Port Harcourt. He has since been returned to Kano for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The chairman of the task force, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, confirmed the arrest, alleging that the suspect played a leading role in financing and coordinating violent activities linked to rival gangs in parts of Kano.

According to the task force, the alleged gang activities had contributed to insecurity and fear among residents of Dala Local Government Area and surrounding communities.

The suspect reportedly fled Kano after security agencies intensified operations against criminal gangs and suspected drug networks in areas affected by recurring violence.

READ ALSO:

Acting on intelligence, operatives tracked him to Port Harcourt and apprehended him in an operation led by the task force’s Head of Operations, CSP Bashir Gwadabe.

The task force said Ibrahim’s arrest outside Kano demonstrated its determination to pursue suspects accused of sponsoring violence, regardless of where they might attempt to hide.

Several communities affected by the intensified security operations include Jakara, Madigawa, Yalwa, Sanka, Kul Kul, Dogon Nama, Kuka Bulukiya, Dala, Shatsari and Dandalin Turawa.

Confirming the development, Magaji warned individuals suspected of financing violent gangs that security agencies would continue efforts to bring them before the law.

He said the task force would sustain its campaign against criminal gangs, their alleged sponsors and drug supply networks linked to insecurity in the state.

The chairman also acknowledged the support of the Kano and Rivers State Police Commands and other security agencies in the operation.

The task force urged residents, community leaders, religious leaders, parents and young people to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and helping prevent the recruitment of youths into criminal gangs.

The arrest comes amid the Kano State Government’s wider campaign against drug abuse, illicit trafficking and gang violence, popularly known locally as daba.

The multi-agency task force was established to tackle drug-related offences and associated criminal activities across Kano’s 44 local government areas.

In September, the task force reported that it had arrested more than 380 suspects and secured over 230 convictions since its inauguration in July 2026. It also outlined plans to expand rehabilitation, vocational training and reintegration programmes for young people affected by substance abuse.

Authorities say the campaign combines enforcement with rehabilitation and community engagement as part of efforts to improve public safety.

Ibrahim’s allegations remain subject to investigation and due process. His arrest does not amount to a conviction, and the allegations must be established through the appropriate legal proceedings.

Abuja Market Shooting: NSCDC Suspends Officer, Orders Trial

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has suspended one of its officers, Deputy Superintendent of Corps Onoja Babayo Samuel, over an alleged shooting incident during a confrontation with traders at Kubwa Market in Abuja.

The corps has also ordered an Orderly Room Trial to determine the officer’s level of responsibility in the incident, which reportedly occurred on October 25, 2026.

Samuel’s suspension followed his arrest by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command over allegations that he fired shots into the air during a dispute with traders at the market.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 29, the NSCDC’s National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, said the alleged conduct amounted to a serious violation of the corps’ rules of engagement and standard operating procedures, particularly those governing the use of firearms.

The Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, reportedly directed the officer’s immediate suspension and the commencement of disciplinary proceedings to establish his culpability.

READ ALSO:

The corps said Samuel had been stripped of his official responsibilities and relieved of his assignment pending the conclusion of the disciplinary process.

A committee at the NSCDC national headquarters in Abuja will oversee the proceedings, while the corps has promised to make the outcome of the internal investigation and disciplinary trial public when concluded.

The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to professional conduct, accountability and public safety, stressing that it would not protect any officer found responsible for actions that endanger lives or violate established operational guidelines.

How the Abuja Market Shooting Happened

The FCT Police Command had earlier confirmed Samuel’s arrest following a distress call reporting that an armed man was firing shots into the air at Kubwa Market.

According to the police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, preliminary investigations indicated that the officer had gone to the market with a pistol after receiving reports that some traders had assaulted his wife.

Police operatives attached to the Kubwa Division responded to the report, disarmed the suspect and arrested him at the scene.

The police also reported recovering a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition from the officer.

The police said investigations would be concluded before the officer was charged in court.

Following the incident, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, urged personnel of other security agencies operating in the territory to exercise restraint and notify the relevant police divisions before carrying out authorised operations.

He said better coordination among security agencies was necessary to prevent avoidable confrontations and improve public safety.

The NSCDC’s disciplinary proceedings and the police investigation are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine any further action.

The suspension is an administrative measure and does not, by itself, establish criminal guilt. The allegations against the officer remain subject to investigation and the relevant disciplinary and legal processes.

Eight Days After Abduction, Kidnappers Demand ₦50m for Nasarawa Teacher

The family of a primary school teacher abducted in Nasarawa State has appealed to the government, security agencies and members of the public for urgent assistance after her captors reportedly demanded ₦50 million ransom for her release.

The teacher, identified as Amina Hussaini, reportedly teaches at Central Pilot Primary School in Kuru, Toto Local Government Area of the state. She was allegedly abducted from her residence in Kuru community on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

The incident has left her family deeply worried as they struggle to secure her freedom and meet the reported ransom demand.

A family member, Suwaiba Abdullahi, made the appeal on Tuesday, October 27, calling on well-meaning Nigerians to assist in efforts to bring Hussaini home safely.

According to reports, the abductors demanded ₦50 million before releasing the teacher. The amount has placed considerable pressure on the family, prompting its appeal for support and intervention.

The family reportedly said the incident had been reported to the police and urged the relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure the teacher’s release.

It also appealed to the Nasarawa State Government, security agencies and members of the public to help ensure her safe return.

As of the latest available reports, there was no confirmed information about the identities of the abductors, the status of negotiations or whether any arrests had been made in connection with the incident.

The abduction has also renewed concerns about kidnapping and insecurity in Nasarawa State. On October 27, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly raised concerns over renewed abductions in parts of the state and called for stronger measures to protect residents.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Danladi Jatau, expressed concern about the security situation, while lawmaker Solomon Akwashiki drew attention to recent incidents affecting communities.

For Hussaini’s family, however, the immediate concern is securing her release and ensuring that she returns home safely.

The family’s appeal comes as residents continue to look to security agencies and the state government for more effective measures to address abductions and protect communities.
