Police apprehend man for allegedly raping six-year-old daughter

The police in Akwa Ibom State said they have arrested a man in the state for allegedly raping his six-year-old daughter.

The suspect, Sunday Ben, lives at Aka Itiam Etoi in Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

He was arrested on 31 July after the incident was reported to the police, the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, Olatoye Durosinmi, told reporters on Wednesday at the police headquarters in Uyo.

“Suspect had earlier gone to carry the victim from the mother to his house. Unfortunately, the next day when he returned her, she was found with blood stains and injuries on her private part. She was taken for a medical examination which confirmed the obvious,” Mr Durosinmi said.

Mr Durosinmi was briefing reporters on the achievements of the police in Akwa Ibom for the months of July and August.

The police commissioner said the police, on 1 July, arrested Bright Nwoke, a 29-year-old resident of Eket Local Government Area of the state, for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl, and that the suspect had confessed to the crime.

The suspect confessed that he sent the girl’s younger brother out to buy a recharge card before he grabbed the survivor into a room, used his palm to cover her mouth to prevent her from screaming for help, the police chief said.

Child theft

Mr Durosinmi told reporters that the police, on 9 August, arrested a suspected child trafficker, Peace Paul from Obot Akara Local Government Area of the state, for allegedly kidnapping two children, aged five and three years, in May.

She sold the two children to Mary Eunice in Aba, Abia State who in turn sold them to Bella Uko in Asaba, Delta State, according to the police chief.

“Similarly, one Alayodi Paul Onyekwere ‘f’ of Abroma, Rivers State was arrested for stealing an 11-year-old daughter of one Emmanuel Macauley Daniel ‘m’ of Ikot Ikot Village in Obot Akara LGA.

“Suspect alleged to have been sent by her grandmother to steal the child which she led operatives to recover from Rivers State. The children are here today and will be reunited with their families,” he added.

Suspected oil thieves and kidnappers have also been arrested between July and August in the state, the police said.

“The suspects will have their days in court,” Mr Durosinmi said.

Prison official kills colleague over food in Bauchi

A Nigerian correctional officer attached to the Burra Correctional Centre, Bauchi State, has allegedly k!lled his colleague following a minor dispute over food.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, around 2 p.m. in Burra town , Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

According to an eyewitness, the deceased, Aliyu Abubakar Chiroma (pictured) and his colleague, Kabiru Abubakar were close friends known to many in the Centre.

The altercation began when Chiroma brought his lunch, and his ally, Kabiru insisted on eating the food against Chiroma’s will, which led to a heated argument.

“The duo exchanged words, which quickly escalated into a fight. Kabiru headbutted Aliyu (Chiroma), which caused him to fall to the ground. And the commotion attracted the attention of nearby people,” the source said.

Chairman of Ningi Local government Council, Hon Nasiru Zakari, confirmed the incident in an interview with a Bauchi publication, WikkiTimes on Thursday.

“I received a report about this unfortunate incident at the Burra Correctional Center, where one officer was allegedly killed by a colleague over a disagreement during lunch,” Zakari said.

The Bauchi State Correctional Service Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Usman Tata, also confirmed that the incident but added that it occurred outside the Correctional facility

Ahmad noted that Chiroma, the deceased, hailed from Giade LGA, while the suspect, Kabiru Abubakar is from Dass LGA of the state. Both were posted to Burra Correctional Center.

He added that the corpse of the deceased had been handed over to his family for burial, while the suspect is in the police custody for further investigation.

29 suspected internet fraudsters arrested in Abuja

Twenty nine suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The suspects were arrested by the operatives of the Abuja Zonal Directorate of EFCC on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Dele Oyewale, Head, Media & Publicity, EFCC said in a statement.

According to the statement, the suspects were arrested at several locations in the Gwagwalada area following credible intelligence about their suspected involvement in internet fraud.

The statement also indicated that 32 telephone handsets of different types were recovered from the suspects.

The anti graft agency said the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

E-CMR: Police to stop checking vehicles documents on the road

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has revealed that with the introduction of the digital Central Motor Registry Information System (e-CMR), Police officers would no longer need to stop vehicles to check their papers.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi made this known on Wednesday night in a post via his X handle.

He said Police Officers would now be equipped with cutting-edge technology to verify documents in real-time.

Adejobi added that once the e-CMR goes into effect, vehicle owners and users would no longer need to carry physical documents as all vehicle document information would be available digitally.

“No more stopping to check papers—our officers are equipped with cutting-edge tech to verify documents in real-time,” one of the tweets read.

“With the NPF’s new E-CMR system, you don’t need to carry around physical documents. Access all your vehicle info digitally—quick, easy, and secure,” it added.

“If your vehicle is registered with the NPF E-CMR and gets stolen, you can instantly flag it as stolen through your online profile,” the statement read.

He said the system then alerts all field officers nationwide within seconds, improving the chances of swift recovery.

Recalled that in July 2024 the IGP ordered the enforcement of the digitalised Central Motor Registry.

He said the move was to modernise and digitize the motor vehicle registration system, and improve the nation’s safety and security framework.
