Fake police inspector leading robbery syndicate in Rivers, Edo, A’Ibom arrested

The Rivers State Police Command on Thursday paraded a fake police inspector, Fred Monday, who led a notorious armed robbery syndicate operating across Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Akwa Ibom states.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, said while arresting five suspected cultists, police encountered Fred Monday, who was dressed in full police camouflage and wore the rank of an Inspector of Police.

He was armed with an AK-47 rifle, ten magazines, and 29 rounds of live ammunition.

Upon interrogation, Monday, a 31-year-old from Wiyakara Community in Khana Local Government Area, confessed to impersonating a police officer.

Disu said the suspect, in his confessional statement, disclosed that he purchased the rifle in 2021 for N850,000 from an accomplice named Goodluck, also known as Boy-J.

He also bought police uniforms, magazines, ammunition, and hand grenades from the same source, the police boss said.

“Monday further confessed to using his fake identity to provide security cover for members of the Vikings Confraternity during their cult initiation ceremonies in Khana,” Disu said.

In a related development, the command also paraded suspects involved in the murder of Chief Ndidi Livingstone, the Chairman of the Community Development Council (CDC) of Mgbuoshimini in Obio Akpor Local Government Area.

Chief Livingstone was shot dead on January 13, 2024, in front of his church in Port Harcourt.

Four men had dragged him out of the church and shot him in the presence of his family and congregants.

Suspected car thief nabbed in Niger State
Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested a suspected car thief and recovered a Toyota Highlander vehicle stolen in Tafa Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, said the suspect claimed that the vehicle was given to him by one Baba Gadas and to be taken to Mubarak in Kaduna for disposal.
“On 04/09/2024 at about 0400hrs, distress was received that some hoodlums invaded a residence at Tudun-Wada area via Sabon-Wuse, Tafa and stole a Toyota Highlander vehicle with Reg. No. ABJ 775 AT and other valuables,” the statement read.

“Immediately the report was received, all security posts along Kaduna road were alerted, and fortunately the said vehicle was intercepted at Customs point along Kaduna road with one *Halilu Shuaibu* 28yrs of Gwarinpa area of Abuja.
“The suspect claimed that the vehicle was given to him by one Baba Gadas of Zuba and to be taken to one Mubarak in Kaduna for disposal.
“Meanwhile, the suspect has been transferred to SCID Minna with the said vehicle for further investigation and diligent prosecution.”

Police arrest DSP, inspector over manhandling of Lagos elderly woman in viral video

The Lagos State Police Command has swiftly condemned the actions of Police Inspector Ayinde M.O, who was caught on video in an altercation with an elderly woman in Alagbado, Lagos.

The video, which went viral on social media, shows the inspector trying to forcefully take the keys from the woman’s Sienna vehicle, with some voices in the background alleging that the scuffle was over a N70,000 request.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, the incident occurred in the first week of September 2024, and a preliminary investigation has already begun.

The Police Inspector and his supervising DSP have been brought in for questioning, and the Complaint Response Unit has established contact with the woman in the video.

The Lagos State Police Command has made it clear that they do not tolerate unprofessional conduct, and this incident does not represent the ethics and operational standards of the Nigeria Police Force. The Command promises a swift, thorough, and conclusive investigation, ensuring that the officers are disciplined accordingly and the public is kept updated.

This isn’t the first time the Lagos State Police Command has taken action against misconduct. Previously, an Inspector was demoted to Sergeant for attempting to extort money from a drone operator.

 The Command’s commitment to accountability and professionalism is reassuring, especially considering the critical role they play in maintaining law and order in Lagos State.

Man remanded for allegedly defiling stepdaughter in Benue

A Makurdi Magistrates Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of one Adera Sunday, 40, accused of defiling of his 16-year-old stepdaughter.

The Magistrate, Mrs Sonia Ayange, did not take the plea of the defendant, a resident of Welfare Quarters, Makurdi, for want of jurisdiction.

Ayange thereafter ordered that the defendant should be remanded at the Makurdi Correctional Centre pending further investigation.

She adjourned the case to Oct. 11 for further mention.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp James Ewache told the court that the teenager reported the case at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi on Aug. 30.

The prosecutor said that the complainant informed the police that her stepfather had been taking sexual advantage of her since she was 13 years of age without her consent.

“He lures her into taking noxious drugs and while under the influence, forcefully takes advantage of her,” the prosecutor said.

Ewache said that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and prayed the court for another date for mention.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 284 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue State, 2004.
