FG files fresh charges against Nnamdi Kanu

The Federal Government has filed fresh seven charges against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The new charges border on treasonable felony and terrorism following the pending charges he was facing since 2016.
The court has also issued hearing notice in the case, which is billed to commence on Thursday, October 21.
The notice titled Federal Republic of Nigeria Versus Nnamdi Kanu with suit number: FHC/ABJ/CR/383/15, was served on Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor and that of the prosecution, Shuaibu Labaran.
The notice indicates that the court presided by Justice Binta Nyako made fresh directives on the conduct of the proceedings throughout the case.
“This case will be transferred from the General Cause List to the hearing paper for Thursday 21st October 2021at 9 o’clock forenoon and will come on to be on that day if the business of the court permits or otherwise on some adjustment day of which you will receive no further notice,” the notice reads.
“If either party desires to postpone the hearing, he must apply to the court as soon as possible for that purpose and if the application is based on any matter of fact, he must be prepared to give proof of those facts.
“The parties are warned that at the hearing, they are required to bring forward all the evidence by witnesses or by documents which each of them desires to rely on in support of his own case and in contradiction of that of his opponent.
“The proof will be required at the hearing and not on a subsequent day, and parties failing to bring their evidence forward at the proper time may find themselves absolutely precluded from adducing it at all, or at best only allowed to do so on payment of substantial costs to the other side, and on such other terms as the court deems fits to impose.
“Parties desirous to enforce the attendance of witnesses should apply at once to the court to issue one or more summonses for the attendance of the witnesses required.
“It is indispensable that the application should be made so as to allow time for reasonable notice to the witnesses required.
“If the witness is required to bring books or papers, they must be particularized in the summons sufficiently to enable him to understand what is meant.
” Any party summoning a witness through the court thereby becomes liable to pay such witness reasonable sum of money to be fixed by the court for his expense and loss of time.
“The court may refuse to enforce the attendance of a witness unless such sum has been fixed and deposited in the court.
“If either party desires to use in evidence at the hearing, any book or document in the possession or power of the other party, he must give the other party, reasonable notice in writing to produce It at the hearing, failing which he will not be allowed to give any secondary evidence of its contents.”

How IPPIS Has Deprived OAUTH Non-Clinical Staff of Salaries Since January

Some non-clinical members of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH) staff have lamented a delay in the payment of their salaries from January 2022 to date.
They told FIJ that the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) failed to capture their data last year, and as a result, they did not get their salaries in January, February and March.
On condition of anonymity, a staffer told FIJ that it was only in April that they were paid, but after that, their salaries did not arrive in May, June and July.
“There was a recruitment last year at the institution. Both clinical and non clinical staff were recruited,” one affected staffer told FIJ. “IPPIS came during the recruitment and captured many of the new recruits while those people not captured were promised that IPPIS would come back to capture them.”

The source said staff members who were not captured under the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) had not been paid since January.
“They paid both clinical and non clinical staffers that were not captured with GIFMIS till December last year, but from January 2022 till date, the ones that were not captured have not been paid.”
When FIJ contacted Kemi Fasoto, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, she confirmed the development.
She said, “The university does not pay staff salaries. I have been paid, and I am a non-clinical staffer. IPPIS will come back and capture them; it is not in our hands.”
FIJ attempted to contact the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the IPPIS office, but phone numbers attached to them were not reachable as of press time.
FIJ also sent messages to the numbers, but there were no responses at press time.

On his part, the husband, Bishop David Oyedepo, said obedience is better than sacrifice.

Oyedepo’s wife, while citing Isaiah 1:19-20, stressed the need for Christians to be obedient to spiritual instructions to enjoy the good of the land.
Her words: “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it” (Isa. 1:19-20).
She urged the church to pray for God’s Spirit to serve and be obedient.
In his own sermon, Bishop Oyedepo, while unravelling the mystery of the covenant of obedience, said: “To be obedient is better than sacrifice. Obedience may be costly but the end result is always priceless.
“When you live your life as a seed, its impact lives for generations after you”.
