Newly appointed Yobe council chair dies hours before swearing-in


The newly appointed Chairman, Caretaker Management Committee of Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, Lawan Gana, is dead.
Gana reportedly passed away on Thursday at Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, after a brief illness.
Before his demise, the deceased was among the 17 LG Chairmen Caretaker Management Committees billed to be sworn in on Friday by Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Gana was a member of the Yobe State House of Assembly between 2003 and 2007 where he represented the Karasuwa Local Government on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
He was also a deputy gubernatorial candidate of the party in 2015 before he defected to the All Progressives Congress in 2019.

Troops raid terrorists’ enclave, kill 6, recover arms in Kaduna
Troops of Operation Forest Sanity in conjunction with the Defence Headquarters Special Forces on Friday killed six terrorists and recovered arms and ammunitions in a successful covert operations.
A statement by the director Defence Media Operations, Major General Musa Danmadami said the troops conducted covert operation to bandits enclaves at Maidaro village in Giwa local government area of Kaduna State and made contact with terrorists.

He said in an ensued fire fight, troops neutralized six terrorists and recovered five AK 47 rifles, 192 rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm Special ammunitions, 74 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm Special, Nine AK 47 rifle magazines, three IEDs, three Baofeng radios, One PKM, and three motorcycles amongst other sundry items.
The military high command commended the troops and urged the general public to avail troops with credible and timely information on terrorist and all criminal activities within their area.

Emefiele: Arrest Buhari, Irabor as accomplices, Sowore asks DSS
Rights activist and presidential candidate in the February 25 election , Omoyele Sowore, has urged the Department of State Services, DSS, to arrest ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor.
Sowore said they should be arrested after the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele was reportedly picked up by the DSS.

He alleged that Buhari and Irabor are Emefiele’s accomplices.
Tweeting, Sowore wrote: “DSS reportedly picks up/detains former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.
“In an ideal society, his main accomplice in the military, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor should be arrested and tried with Emefiele.
“Of course not leaving out former President @MBuhari as well.
“Former Central Bank of Nigeria @cenbank Gov. Godwin Emefiele’s case with that of ex-President @MBuhari his principal, should be treated as a Crime Against Humanity! #RevolutionNow.”

Terrorists gun down 13 vigilantes, abduct 30 in Niger
No fewer than 13 members of the vigilante corps have been killed while 30 others were abducted by terrorists in Niger State.
The incident occurred at Kusherki village of Rafi local government area of the state in series of renewed attacks launched recently by bandits on farming communities in shiroro, Munya , Rafi and parts of Paikoro local government area.
It was learnt that the attacks took place in the night when the vigilante corps was taken unawares.
Sources hinted that the bandits in their large numbers on motorcycles stormed the area with dangerous weapons and shot randomly to scare the villagers before confronting members of the vigilante corps.

A vigilante member who survived the attack said they had engaged them in a fierce battle but were overpowered by superior fire from the bandits.
The chairman of Rafi local government council, Alh. Usman Ayuba Katako who confirmed the incident.
He said he could not give the exact number of casualties and those abducted as he was in hospital trying to ensure that those injured were attended to.
Governor Umar Bago last week, met with security agencies in his effort to address attacks by bandits and has vowed to end the menace.
