Police arrest couple in Abuja for selling six-year-old child at N450,000
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested Christiana Ibanga and her boyfriend, Inyene Akpan, for allegedly trafficking their child and selling the baby for ₦450,000.
The suspects were paraded alongside others at the command headquarters in Ikot-Akpanabia, Uyo, on Wednesday, January 29.
The Command spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, revealed that the arrest followed a tip-off from a woman whose identity was withheld. The woman claimed that Ibanga had lured her six-year-old daughter and taken her to an undisclosed location.
DSP John stated that further investigations led to the apprehension of the suspects, who are now facing charges related to child trafficking and abduction.
“On June 15, 2024, a woman from Afaha Atai Village, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, reported that one Christiana Uwem Ibanga of Ekamba Nsukara Village, Uyo LGA, lured her six-year-old daughter away to an undisclosed location.

Acting swiftly, our operatives launched an investigation and arrested Ibanga and her boyfriend, Inyene Etuk Akpan, on January 14, 2025, in Abuja,” John said
When interrogated, the suspects confessed to selling their child in May 2024 for N450,000 with the help of one Saviour Aniedi.
Ibanga further admitted to conspiring with Aniedi and his wife to steal the complainant’s child, who was later sold in Aba, Abia State, to an unidentified buyer.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has since launched a manhunt in Aba to locate the buyer and rescue the stolen child.
“On January 23, 2025, our investigators extended their operations to Aba in pursuit of the buyer and the missing child. While the suspects in Aba remain elusive, we have made significant progress, and their arrest is imminent,” the PPRO added.
She warned criminals operating in the state to either turn a new leaf or face the full wrath of the law.

There was pandemonium on Saturday at the rally ground of NEW Associates, a pro-Wike political in Bayelsa State, as gunmen suspected to be political thugs shot sporadically at the crowd and disrupted the programme.
The gunshots caused pandemonium as the crowd dispersed and scampered for their safety. Although there were no casualties but it was confirmed that some persons sustained gunshot injuries.

The rally organised by the supporters of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in appreciation of President Bola Tinubu for appointing sons and daughters of the state into positions in government, was also aimed at declaring support for Wike, who is the grand patron of the group.
It could be recalled that the rally earlier fixed for April 12 was shifted to April 26, after supporters of Governor Douye Diri also fixed their rally at the earlier date and venue. Though both groups also shifted their rallies.

The supporters of NEW Associates who had thronged the Church of God Mission Camp arena, venue of the rally, as early as 8 am, were already seated when the gunmen began shooting sporadically from the nearby bush.
The supporters, however, ran for their lives while the combined security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and DSS engaged the hoodlums to retreat.
They also combed the surrounding bushes to forestall any further attacks.
Speaking shortly after the incident, the Secretary of NEW Associates and former spokesman of Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, accused the state government of trying to scatter their peaceful rally, vowing to continue with the rally.
He said the put up the peaceful rally to appreciate President Bola Tinubu for appointing sons and daughters of the state in positions of responsibility in his government, wondering why somebody should feel threatened with a peaceful rally.

Police bust human trafficking ring in Oyo, 84 victims rescued
The Oyo State Police Command has uncovered a human trafficking ring in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The police stormed the building where 83 individuals and a child from a house in the Orogun area of the city, were being held against their will.
Preliminary reports suggest that the victims, believed to be nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo, were lured to Nigeria under the pretence of being offered employment opportunities.

There are also claims that the perpetrators extorted significant sums of money, reportedly in dollars, from the victims’ parents and relatives as part of the elaborate scheme.
The rescued individuals are currently at the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, where authorities are conducting further investigations to ascertain the full details of the case.

Lagos taskforce arrests 52 suspects in Island clean-up operation
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has apprehended 52 individuals during a late-night clean-up aimed at tackling crime on Lagos Island.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, announced the arrests in a statement shared on Saturday via X.
According to Wahab, the enforcement exercise began at around 12:35 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, and covered several key locations, including Lekki, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel, and Ligali Ayorinde.

Wahab said, “Complaints and distressed calls suggest that some of these streets are populated at night by unscrupulous elements—miscreants, street urchins, pickpockets, and other suspected criminals—denying innocent Lagosians of their hard-earned valuables and belongings.”
He revealed that 52 suspects—51 males and one female—were arrested during the operation. He added that order was restored in all the areas visited.
“The operation today on the Island was part of a series of enforcement and clean-up exercises slated for at least twice a week to gradually rid the area of criminal elements,” Wahab explained.
He further assured residents that the suspects would be prosecuted to ensure a safer Lagos.
