Three self-confessed killers of Adeniyi Sanni, a senior aide to Senator for Ogun West, Senator Solomon Adeola popularly known as Yayi, have been paraded by the Lagos State Police Command.

The suspects were paraded at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters on Monday by the Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa.

Recall that Sanni was reported killed in August and his body was dumped by the roadside in the Toyota area of Oshodi in Lagos.

The senator later said that information at his disposal indicated that “a syndicate of soldiers” killed his aide.

But speaking while being paraded on Monday, the suspected killers said that late Sanni was shot thrice and stabbed in the chest before he was dumped in the pool of his blood.

The suspects, who are all ex-convicts, claimed to have been posing as military personnel to rob unsuspecting motorists and snatch their cars.

They further claimed to be members of a transnational robbery syndicate that specialises in snatching unregistered vehicles from motorists.

The suspects revealed that they would drive the stolen vehicles to their sponsor and gang leader based in Benin Republic.

Items recovered from the suspects are three pistols, one of which is locally made, military accoutrement, expended and live cartridges and the Toyota CRV vehicle forcefully collected from late Sanni.

Alleged kidnap of 3 students in Ogun fake – Police

The Ogun State Police Command has denied the rumour-making round that three students of Salawu Abiola Comprehensive High School, Osiele, Abeokuta were kidnapped.

The command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, made the clarification in a statement she made available to newsmen on Saturday night.

Odutola, who described the report as misleading and capable of creating panic in the public, enjoined members of the public to disregard the report.

The statement read, “The attention of Ogun State Police Command has been drawn to an online news being circulated in the wake of Friday 29th September 2023, that three pupils of Salawu Abiola Comprehensive High School, Abeokuta, were kidnapped without first getting clarifications from the Command”.

“The parents of the pupils were contacted, and none of them reported any cases of kidnapping to the school authorities”.

“In light of this investigation, the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has assured the public that security measures have been reinforced across the State”.

“Residents are encouraged to carry on with their daily routines without any fear or risk to themselves or their properties”.

“The Police Command also appeals to online writers to verify the authenticity of stories before publishing them”.

Police, netizens trade words over IGP secretary’s ‘N1m’ Samsung phone, luxury watch

Muyiwa Adejobi, the public relations officer of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), says it is ridiculous for Nigerians to believe that officers can not afford expensive phones.

Adejobi, while responding to a query on his X handle, on Saturday, said netizens need to be “straight and be objective” when questioning police officers’ source of income.

On Friday, Adejobi posted a picture of one David Victoria, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and secretary to the inspector general of Police (IGP), who appears to be holding a Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 and a diamond-branded watch around her wrist.

“We have beautiful and intelligent ones in the force. This is DSP David Victoria, secretary to the IGP. Happy weekend. Ire o,” Adejobi wrote.

Netizens, who reacted to the post, asked for a disclosure of the officer’s salary that could afford a cellphone worth N1 million.

An X user also requested that Victoria’s account statement be printed out to track her cash inflow claiming her salary cannot afford such an expensive gadget.

“Her cellphone, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, is worth over a million naira. I don’t wanna talk about her wristwatch, which is also not cheap. Where did she get the money from, and how much is her monthly salary that she was able to afford all that?” the social media user wrote.

In response, Adejobi said police officers are not paupers, while he asked the X user to withdraw his statement.

“Police officers are not paupers. Withdraw your statement. It’s ridiculous to us to say a DSP can’t use Samsung fold 2…. you need to reason straight and be objective. Do you know what it is to be a DSP?” Adejobi said.

Checks by TheCable showed that a 256GB Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 price ranges from ₦700,000 – ₦750,000 based on location. Also, for a 512GB Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, the price ranges from ₦800,000 – ₦850,000.

Italian bags 24 years in jail for beating physically challenged Nigerian to death

The sad incident happened right in the middle of Civitanova Marche city, located in the Province of Macerata, Marche region of Italy, on July 29, 2022.

The slain Nigerian was physically challenged, and footage showed how the assailant grabbed his crutches before slamming him on the ground in broad daylight.

On July 30, 2022, Ferlazzo was arrested and detained by the Italian police on charges of having murdered Ogorchukwu and having stolen his phone.

However, according to the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, an Italian court has sentenced the assailant to 24 years imprisonment.

Dabiri-Erewa disclosed this in a statement signed by NiDCOM spokesperson Gabriel Odu on Thursday, September 28, 2023.

While expressing her satisfaction over the justice meted out to Ferlazzo, the NiDCOM boss commended the Nigerian Mission in Rome for following through with the case and other cases involving Nigerians.

“I am glad that this case finally got justice. Like I always say, there has to be consequences for actions,” the statement partly read.

She also urged diaspora Nigerians to always conduct themselves lawfully, strive for excellence in their endeavours and never forget to give back to their homeland.

Dabiri-Erewa admonished Nigerians taking residence abroad to uphold the law, be the best in their chosen fields, and most importantly, never forget their roots by supporting their home country.
