Insecurity: The worst over, Nigeria is Safe, says Lai Mohammed
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said the worst is over as far as insecurity is concerned.
Mohammed stated this at a Ministerial Session at the ongoing UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week.
He said the military and other security agencies were up to the task of protecting Nigerians and non-citizens living in the country.
He said, “I can assure all that our military and other security agencies have continued to do everything possible to secure and protect Nigerians and foreigners living in Nigeria.
“Terrorists have been hard hit and put on the run. Bandits have been decimated and scattered. Our country is safer today than at any time in recent times, thanks to the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform. Nigerians too should continue to be alert but must not panic. Like I said in a recent statement, as far as insecurity is concerned, the worst is over for Nigeria.”

Mohammed also said some media outlets and social media personalities were usually caught spreading unverified information on their platforms just for clickbait and the attendant monetary gain.
“Talking of clickbait, this may be what informed the spread of the supposed security alert issued recently by some foreign embassies in Nigeria.”
“One would imagine that if indeed this kind of security alert was issued, it was for the attention of citizens of the issuing countries in Nigeria. Suddenly, this alert found its way into the media, both new and traditional, thus creating panic in the polity.
“Schools were shut, businesses were closed, travel plans were altered, lives were disrupted. No one cared to find out about the authenticity of these alerts. They just published, got the benefit of massive clickbait and damned the consequences.”

The police have asked Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan to cancel her planned Sallah rally in the Central Senatorial district of Kogi State.
The State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye made this known on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya.
According to the statement, the Kogi police boss said the rally is against the proclamation on ban on political gathering by the state government issued on Monday.
The statement said, “Following the intelligence report on security threats in Kogi State and the subsequent ban on all forms of Rally and procession by the Kogi State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Police Command has called on the organisers of planned rally at Okene to cancel such event in the interest of the peace in Kogi State.

“The call for cancellation becomes necessary, noting that intelligence reveals that some hoodlums plan to hijack the process and cause disturbance of peace in the State. The Command cannot afford to jeopardize the existing peace the State is currently enjoying.
“In view of the security threat received on the planned rally, the Kogi State Police Command is therefore advising the organisers to cancel the event so as to avoid any breakdown of law and order in the State. As the Command will not hesitate to apply the full wrath of law on any one who causes disturbance of peace and order in the State.”
Despite the Monday proclamation by the state government banning political gathering or rallies, Akpoti-Uduaghan has vowed to continue with her “homecoming”, adding that she’s only coming to the state to celebrate Eid Fitr with her constituents.

Lightning strike kills herder, 12 cows in Kaduna
A tragic incident occurred in Southern Kaduna as a herder, identified as Ibrahim Likit, and at least 12 cows were struck dead by lightning.
The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in Matuak Giwa, Bondon District, Moro’a Chiefdom, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to the Village Head of Matuak Giwa, Simon Ayuba, the young herder was seeking shelter from the rain alongside his cattle when a thunderstrike hit, killing them instantly.
“The herder, along with 12 cows, d!ed on the spot. It was a tragic occurrence that has left the community in shock,” Ayuba said.

Confirming the incident, Mallam Tanko Isiyaka, the Ardo of Bondon District, disclosed that the deceased herder hailed from Bauchi State.
He expressed sadness over the incident and called for prayers and support for the bereaved family as the victim was laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
The occurrence has since stirred grief and sympathy among residents of the area.

A woman, Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Usman, her husband, Alhaji Muhammad Usman, alongside their four other relations reportedly lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident which occurred at Ahoko bridge, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
A witness said the incident occurred around 12:34 pm on Sunday, the eidfitr day.
He said the couple and the four others left Toto town in Nasarawa State in an unmarked Honda car to attend a burial of one of their relatives at Kotonkarfe when the accident happened.
He said the car veered off the road and somersaulted into a ditch after a trailer hit the vehicle from behind, adding that all the six occupants died on the spot.
Our reporter learnt that Muhammed Usman was the chairmanship aspirant in the November, 2024, Toto LGA election in the area.
However, the remains of the deceased were evacuated into an ambulance to Toto for burial.
