Napoli won’t swap Osimhen for Ronaldo – Spalletti

Luciano Spalletti insists there is ‘nothing concrete at the moment’ between Napoli, Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo, but does explain it ‘wouldn’t be a swap with Victor Osimhen’ if it did happen.

Osimhen found the net in both their Serie A games so far, yet he is being linked with a shock €100m move to Manchester United, who would loan Ronaldo to Napoli and pay most of the Portuguese striker’s salary.

Speaking at a press conference, coach Spalletti said,”If you’re asking me if I’d like to work with Ronaldo, I tell you no coach would say no to that. However, if we go into those areas the journalists like to fill in for themselves, then as Osimhen’s agent said, there are no negotiations.

“Speaking to (President Aurelio) De Laurentiis, he told me that he received no offer, so let’s remain as realistic as possible here and take into consideration only things that could happen.

“There are only a few days left in the transfer window, it seems unlikely that could go through. There is nothing concrete at the moment.”

Nonetheless, Spalletti was more than happy to discuss the ramifications of such an exchange between Ronaldo and Nigeria international Osimhen.

“It wouldn’t be a swap, it would be two different signings, in that case. One of the two can turn a game by himself. But in any case, at the moment we should not consider things that won’t help us pick up three points in Florence.

“Osimhen is the one who has to be the protagonist there. With a player like Osimhen, who is so talented, we know there is the permanent risk that some rich owner around the world will wake up in the morning and decide to buy him and that includes a club like Manchester United.”

Spalletti is from Florence and has never disguised he went to the Stadio Franchi as a child to watch Fiorentina from the stands.

“I was there with my friends, waving my flag. Fiorentina caused us problems in all three games we played against them last season in Serie A and the Coppa Italia. It is fundamental we take control of the spaces that they create with their attacking style.”

The Partenopei visit Fiorentina on Sunday (today) and are trying to protect their 100 per cent start to the season.

Manchester City Beat Chelsea To Win Seventh FA Cup Title

Manchester City secured their seventh FA Cup title after edging past Chelsea FC with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in a tense final at Wembley Stadium.

The decisive moment came in the 72nd minute when Antoine Semenyo produced a brilliant back-heeled finish from close range after connecting with a dangerous delivery from Erling Haaland.

The clever flick wrong-footed Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and proved enough to separate both sides in what was largely a cagey and scrappy contest.

For long periods, the final struggled to reach expected levels of intensity and quality, with both teams cancelling each other out and creating few clear-cut scoring opportunities.

Manchester City dominated possession throughout much of the encounter but found it difficult to break down Chelsea’s defensive setup, while the London side looked dangerous mainly on the counterattack.

Haaland, who endured a frustrating afternoon due to limited service and Chelsea’s tight marking, still played a crucial role by delivering the assist that led to the winning goal.

Chelsea attempted to respond after falling behind, but City’s defence remained disciplined and composed under pressure to preserve the narrow advantage until the final whistle.

The victory ended Manchester City’s recent frustrations in FA Cup finals following painful defeats against rivals Manchester United and Crystal Palace in previous editions of the competition.

Pep Guardiola’s side have now added the FA Cup to the Carabao Cup already secured earlier in the season, keeping alive hopes of ending the campaign with multiple trophies.

City also remain firmly in the race for the Premier League title, sitting two points behind Arsenal F.C. with two league matches remaining.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola praised his players for their discipline, patience and determination in a difficult final.

The Spanish manager described the victory as an important response after previous FA Cup disappointments and credited his squad for maintaining focus during a demanding season.

For Chelsea, the defeat extended a miserable recent record in FA Cup finals, marking the club’s fourth consecutive loss in the competition’s showpiece event.

The result also means Chelsea will end the season without silverware despite signs of improvement in performances during parts of the campaign.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino expressed disappointment after the match, admitting his side struggled to create enough attacking opportunities against City’s organised defensive structure.

Chelsea supporters were left frustrated after another near miss at Wembley, with questions expected to continue over the club’s consistency and ability to compete for major honours.

Meanwhile, Manchester City players and fans celebrated wildly after the final whistle as the club strengthened its reputation as one of the dominant forces in English football under Guardiola.

International music superstar Shakira has officially unveiled “Dai Dai,” the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring Grammy-winning Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy.

The highly anticipated track was released on Friday, with Shakira announcing the development through her social media platforms.

Shakira Burna Boy unveil official song for 2026 World Cup as Rema set to headline opening ceremony “Dai Dai is here. The @FIFAWorldCup 2026 starts now!” the Colombian singer wrote while sharing clips from the project.

In a statement shared on its official X account, FIFA confirmed that the song is now available on major streaming platforms worldwide through Sony Music Entertainment Latin.

According to FIFA, the song captures the “energy, passion and global spirit” expected to define the expanded 48-team World Cup tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2026.

The football body further disclosed that proceeds from the song will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative aimed at raising $100 million before the end of the tournament to provide children around the world with access to quality education and football opportunities.

FIFA revealed that Shakira would donate all her royalties from the song to the initiative, while Sony Music pledged to match the first $250,000 generated through the project.

The newly released anthem blends Afrobeats and Latin pop influences, with both artistes delivering verses centred on perseverance, ambition, football culture and global unity.

In several lines of the song, the artistes referenced football legends and global stars including Pelé, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Mohamed Salah, David Beckham and Andrés Iniesta.

The song also highlights football-loving nations such as Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, England, Germany, France, Spain, South Africa, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, the Netherlands and the United States.

The release marks Shakira’s return to the World Cup music stage after the massive success of “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and “La La La” at the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

For Burna Boy, the collaboration represents another major milestone in the global rise of Nigerian music and Afrobeats. The singer becomes the second Nigerian artiste to feature on an official FIFA World Cup soundtrack after Davido appeared on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)” for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Meanwhile, FIFA has also confirmed that Nigerian music star Rema will headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled for June 12 in Los Angeles, United States.

Shakira is also expected to co-headline the World Cup final halftime show on July 19, an event FIFA described as the first halftime performance in the history of the World Cup final.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the initiative is designed to unite music, football and global humanitarian efforts through entertainment and cultural celebration.

The organisation added that “Dai Dai” joins previously released tracks from the official FIFA World Cup 2026 album, including “Lighter,” “Por Ella,” “Echo” and “Illuminate,” with additional singles expected before the tournament begins.

Team Nigeria Beats Botswana, Kenya to Claim 4x400m Relay Gold

Nigeria has continued its impressive run at the ongoing African Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, after securing its second gold medal in the mixed 4x400m relay, defeating strong rivals Botswana and Kenya in a tightly contested final on Wednesday night.

The Nigerian team, comprising Ezekiel Asuquo, Toheebat Jimoh, Victor Sampson, and experienced runner Patience Okon-George, delivered a well-coordinated performance to finish first with a time of 3:16.41, edging out their closest challengers in a thrilling race decided in the final stretch.

The competition was intense from the start, with Botswana and Kenya maintaining pressure throughout the early and middle stages of the race. However, Nigeria remained composed, benefiting from smooth baton exchanges and consistent pacing across all four legs.

Anchor runner Patience Okon-George played a decisive role in the final leg, holding off a late surge from rival teams to secure the gold medal for Nigeria.

Nigeria’s success was largely attributed to strong team coordination, efficient baton exchanges, and disciplined race execution. Each athlete contributed significantly to maintaining a competitive edge, especially as Botswana and Kenya intensified their challenge in the closing stages.

Athletics observers noted that Nigeria’s ability to maintain composure under pressure proved decisive in securing victory in a race where margins were extremely tight.

Botswana, a powerhouse in the 400m category, and Kenya, increasingly competitive in sprint relay events, both produced strong performances but were ultimately unable to match Nigeria’s finishing speed.

Despite their efforts, both teams were overtaken in the final phase, where Nigeria’s anchor leg proved decisive in sealing the win.

The victory marks Nigeria’s second gold medal at the African Athletics Championships, following the earlier triumph of world champion hurdler Tobi Amusan, who opened the country’s gold medal account at the competition.

With the championships still ongoing in Accra, Ghana, Nigeria has emerged as one of the standout nations in early events, raising expectations of a stronger overall medal haul.

The event has attracted top athletes from across Africa, competing for continental titles, national pride, and qualification opportunities for global championships.

Nigeria’s athletics federation has expressed optimism that the country’s strong start will translate into more medals as remaining track and field events unfold.
