Actor Saidi Balogun loses daughter

Saidi Balogun, the Nigerian actor, has lost Zinat Balogun, his first daughter.

On Saturday, Saidi shared a sombre post on Instagram, featuring an image of a candle surrounded by flowers, accompanied by a heartbroken emoji.

Reports indicate that the actor was in the middle of a stage performance at Terra Kulture on Friday when he received the news of Zinat’s passing.

Faithia Williams, Saidi’s ex-wife and Zinat’s former stepmother expressed her grief on Instagram.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un” (from Allah we come, and to Him we shall return),” she wrote.

Ronke Oshodi, Saidi’s colleague, took to her page to pay tribute to the family.

“No words can ease the pain of losing someone so precious. My heart goes out to you, @saidibalogun, during this incredibly difficult time. May you find strength in the love and support surrounding you,” Oshodi wrote.

Chioma Omeruah, the comedian popularly known as Chigul, also offered condolences via Saidi’s comment section. She wrote, “So sorry, sir. May the Almighty send healing and comfort.”

Other notable actors, including Kunle Afod, Yomi Fash-Lanso, and Adeniyi Johnson, have extended their sympathies.

The cause of Zinat’s death has not been disclosed.

Zinat was Saidi’s first child from his previous marriage to Sherifat.

Before this loss, the actor was a father of four children.

Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mercy Aigbe has shared insights into her decision to marry popular movie marketer Kazim Adeoti, also known as Adekaz.

Speaking as a guest on Nollywood on Radio, Aigbe revealed that having a partner within the entertainment industry was a significant factor in her choice.

“One of the reasons I married him is that we’re both in the same industry,” Aigbe explained. “Together, we’re building a production empire. I just felt I needed someone in the industry to collaborate with, and it’s a good thing that he understands it too. Combining our strengths, the future looks promising.

Aigbe’s 2023 cinema movie, Ada Omo Daddy, has already showcased the synergy between her and Adeoti, marking her successful cinema debut. Reflecting on the project’s reception, she said, “The feedback was amazing. I was a bit nervous as it was my first cinema debut, and there was heavy competition from established names in the cinema sector. But I was confident because I knew I had a sellable product.”

 Aigbe also added that her intention is to be on all platforms she can make money from.

“I wont just be on cinemas I will be on all paltforms I can make money from”

Why I almost poisoned myself – Actress Eniola Ajao

Popular actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao recently shared a harrowing experience on Nollywood on Radio, a show dedicated to Nigerian cinema.

She revealed the emotional toll that false news online had taken on her mental health, describing how she once nearly poisoned herself in response to a hurtful rumour.

“I almost poisoned myself because there was news about me online that was far from true,” Ajao said. “It was the first time in my life that I faced something so painful. I didn’t eat for seven straight days. People around me can testify – I didn’t go anywhere.”

At the time, she was in the midst of planning her next film, a process that became increasingly difficult due to her emotional state. “My sisters were calling, telling me, ‘You have to do this for yourself. You don’t have to poison yourself.’ My son was reaching out to everyone, saying I was struggling with this lie online,” she shared.

The actress added, “I don’t even want to remember those things, honestly”, she recounted on the show.
