It’s not for S’Court to release Kanu, but FG – Uwazuruike tongue-lashes Tinubu

Leader of the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) and founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has tongue-lashed the Federal Government over last week’s Supreme Court judgment for the return of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to the Federal High Court to continue his treason trial.

Kanu was renditioned by the Federal Government from Kenya in June 2021 and had since then been detained in the facilities of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja

Uwazuruike in a viral video on social media yesterday castigated President Bola Tinubu on the Supreme Court judgment, saying that the president is just deceiving Ndigbo and does not want to let go the IPOB leader.

He, therefore, urged the president to release Kanu and stop using the court as an excuse.

He noted that by the continued incarceration of Kanu, the Tinubu government was simply playing games, rather than following established examples.

Uwazuruike blamed the government and politicians for being responsible for insecurity in the country, saying that the leadership has kept a blind eye over arresting the ugly trend because they are involved.

He reminded President Tinubu that “during our own time, it wasn’t the Supreme Court that released me, it wasn’t the Supreme Court that released Asari Dokubo, it wasn’t the Supreme Court that released Dr Fredrick Fasehun, it wasn’t the Supreme Court that released Gani Adams, so when has the Supreme Court come to play here, why must it be Nnamdi Kanu now that the Supreme Court will release?

“Even if you go back to the era of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was it the Supreme Court that released him? Look at Sunday Igboho of yesterday, who was released from Benin Republic, was it the Supreme Court that released him? Why must the Supreme Court release Nnamdi Kanu? The government should stop deceiving us, we are not children.”

He said that he never expected the Supreme Court to release Kanu, insisting that it is the place of the President, not the Supreme Court, to release a person charged with treason and treasonable felony

His words: “I never expected the Supreme Court to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. There is no way the Supreme Court can release Nnamdi Kanu, it has never happened. It is not the place of the court to release a person charged with treason and treasonable felony, that is the place of the President.

“The case is not between the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Nnamdi Kanu, the case is between the State and Nnamdi Kanu and when you talk of the State you talk of the President as the number one citizen.

“There is no way the Supreme Court can release Nnamdi Kanu without the consent of the President, without the President authorizing it, it is impossible, it has never happened.

“The last video I made, I said that the Supreme Court is an arm of government, the Federal Government, the President can use the Supreme Court to release Nnamdi Kanu, or he can release him on his own, but they want to put it as if the Supreme Court doesn’t release Nnamdi Kanu, then Nnamdi Kanu cannot be released.

“Nobody is expecting the Supreme Court to release him in the first place. We still expect the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu as Christmas gift to the Southeast as they released Sunday Igboho who is now enjoying with his family, I think in Canada or Germany.

“They should release Nnamdi Kanu. What has the Supreme Court got to do with this? When you want to talk about insecurity in the Southeast, was it caused by Nnamdi Kanu alone, what about the sponsors, the politicians?

“Recently, President Bola Tinubu’s official told us that they know the sponsors of insecurity not only in the Southeast, but also in the Northeast, Boko Haram where are their sponsors? Where are they, why have they not been charged to court?

“You are holding only Nnamdi Kanu, so Nnamdi Kanu is the only person that is causing the insecurity in the Southeast? Is that what you want us to believe? He single-handedly transpired within himself alone without any other person, sponsored it, started causing the insecurity in the Southeast, he alone? Don’t deceive us, please.

“We still expect President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, he is the only person that can do it, to enjoy with his family. He has been there close to three years now. What has he done? Sunday Igboho was clamouring for the Oduduwa Republic, Nnamdi Kanu is clamouring for Biafra Republic, so what’s the difference here?

READ ALSO:

“This one (Sunday Igboho) you asked him to proceed to his destination, Germany and this one (Nnamdi Kanu) you adopted him back to Nigeria to come and face trial. The Supreme Court, I learnt, said that though the process was irresponsible, but since he is in Nigeria he should be tried.

“Oh, that was why you people asked Igboho to go to Germany from Benin Republic? Who are you deceiving? Why are you not trying the sponsors of insecurity? Because you know that you people are entangled, they are politicians, all of you are involved.

“Every time you come to tell us that you know the people sponsoring insecurity, we don’t know them and you cannot try them, why? Because you are involved. Please release Nnamdi Kanu. Release him. Your hands are dirty, everybody, your hands are dirty.

“I said it last time when you are in government the opposition will start doing all sort of things to take power from you. They engaged people criminally to disorganize you, by the time you are out and they come into office, all these people will face them, all the people they sponsored will face them with arms and ammunition, and when you leave office also they face those that will come in.

“You are all involved that is why you cannot bring those that sponsor insecurity to face punishment and you are now holding one person making him a scapegoat as if he is the worst person while all of you are involved.

“If I don’t support Nnamdi Kanu’s release what should I support? Who should I support? If you have the fundamental right to say that he should not be released, I also have the fundamental right to say he should be released, so he must be released because the government has started releasing similar people like Sunday Igboho.

“Was I not charged with treason and treasonable felony, Am I not here, was it the Supreme Court that released me? They are saying they should go back to Federal High Court, to do what? To do what at the Federal High Court? If you thought, it was the judiciary that will release him why didn’t you release him when the Appeal Court ruled that he should be released?

“Don’t insult our intelligence, we are human beings. If you want to bring ethnic colouration into it, fine, maybe he is an Igbo man, otherwise why is Sunday Igboho that committed the same offence enjoying in Germany? Please go away with your Supreme Court nonsense.”

Tinubu Commissions Gateway Airport, Pledges to Crush Banditry in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has pledged to defeat banditry, terrorism, and insecurity across Nigeria, promising continued investment in the country’s security architecture. He made the declaration while commissioning the Gateway International Airport and several other federal projects in Ogun State on Saturday.

Speaking at a reception following the inauguration, Tinubu said his administration will intensify efforts to protect lives and property across the nation. “We will win over banditry and defeat insecurity. We will continue to invest more to strengthen the security architecture of Nigeria,” he stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to national safety.

The president described the Gateway International Airport as the economic nerve center of Nigeria’s corridor, highlighting its role in boosting the aviation sector, trade, and socioeconomic development in Ogun State and the wider region. The airport is integrated with independent gas and energy infrastructure, ensuring sustainability and operational efficiency.

Tinubu also lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for using improved federal allocations to develop infrastructure capable of driving Ogun State to greater economic heights. He praised the state government’s focus on mobility, security, agriculture, and industrial development, noting that projects like the airport and new Gateway Airlines will enhance trade, logistics, and employment opportunities.

Governor Abiodun, in his remarks, emphasized the transformative impact of the airport and related infrastructure on Ogun State’s economy. He noted that the state’s internally generated revenue has grown from ₦40 billion to over ₦250 billion annually, while its GDP increased from ₦4 trillion to ₦17 trillion over the past seven years. He added that the airport features a four-kilometre runway, modern control tower, advanced aviation systems, and cargo facilities, making it a centerpiece of the state’s emerging aerotropolis.

The ceremony also saw the launch of Gateway Airlines, operating Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft, alongside cargo services designed to expand trade and logistics capacity. Beyond aviation, Ogun State has invested heavily in roads, healthcare, and housing, including over 1,600 km of rehabilitated roads, more than 7,000 affordable homes, and 140 primary healthcare centers, according to Governor Abiodun.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, state governors, lawmakers, captains of industry, and traditional leaders. Both praised the collaboration between federal and state governments in delivering critical infrastructure, with Tinubu’s leadership highlighted as key to Nigeria’s development and security progress.

Tinubu emphasized that the federal government’s reforms and infrastructure investments are people-centered, aimed at improving daily life, fostering prosperity, and ensuring national security. He added that these efforts are designed to overcome violence and terrorism while positioning Nigeria for sustained economic growth.

Mother, Six Children Kidnapped in Fresh Kaduna Bandit Attack

In a fresh wave of banditry in Kaduna State, a mother and six children were abducted from their home in Kurmin‑Uwa near Janjala community in Kagarko Local Government Area on Friday night. The attack comes less than 24 hours after suspected bandits kidnapped ten residents, including seven members of a single family, in Unguwar Sabon‑Titi, Katari.

According to residents, the raid occurred around 10:23 p.m., with the assailants going directly to the targeted house before whisking away the victims, identified as Ladi Malachy, Patience Malachy, Promise Malachy, Inama Malachy, Peter Malachy, and Aboyi Malachy. Witnesses said the attackers fled into surrounding forests, leaving the community in fear.

A local resident, Ibrahim Shehu, confirmed the abduction, while a community leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed he alerted security operatives immediately after learning about the raid. However, it remains unclear whether authorities responded promptly. Kurmin‑Uwa is located about two kilometres from Kagarko town, an area that has seen repeated bandit attacks on households.

Security sources indicate that search and rescue operations have been launched, as authorities work to locate the kidnappers and secure the release of the abducted family. Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

The back‑to‑back kidnappings have heightened tension in rural Kaduna communities, with residents calling for intensified patrols, improved security presence, and faster emergency response to prevent further abductions. Analysts warn that without swift action, such violent raids may continue to terrorise villages across the state.

INEC Warns ADC Against Holding Convention Without Supervision

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) against proceeding with its planned congresses and national convention without proper supervision and in defiance of an existing court order.

Chairman Joash Amupitan issued the warning during an interview on Arise TV on Friday, after the ADC insisted on going ahead with its convention despite INEC’s derecognition of the leadership faction linked to David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.

Amupitan stressed that INEC’s actions were guided by legal considerations, particularly a subsisting court order restraining the ADC from taking steps that could undermine ongoing legal proceedings. “Don’t do anything. Don’t take any step that will render any proceeding before the court nugatory,” he said.

READ ALSO:

He explained that the ADC’s plan to conduct congresses and a national convention is already part of a pending legal process, with motions related to the activities yet to be determined by the court. Ignoring the court’s directive, he warned, could result in invalidated elections or nullified internal party decisions, citing precedents in Zamfara and Plateau states where failure to comply with court orders affected electoral outcomes.

Amupitan highlighted the risks of repeating past mistakes, stressing that while the ADC is free to act as it chooses, INEC would not risk supervising illegal or unauthorized party activities. He reinforced the importance of adhering to the Electoral Act and judicial directives to ensure that party events are legally recognised and free from future challenges.

The INEC Chairman’s warning comes amid heightened tension within the ADC, with the faction led by David Mark facing derecognition and ongoing litigation over the party’s legitimate leadership. Analysts note that the statement underscores INEC’s commitment to rule of law, legal compliance, and internal party democracy, especially as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
